Panel with bird, 17th century .
Period: 17th century
Dimensions: 70 cm x 70 cm (27.56 inches x 27.56 inches)
A rare 17th-century tile panel featuring the colors traditionally used at the time: blue, yellow and white. This composition is framed with a double bar of geometric elements called "Wolf's Tooth" and white and green tiles. In the center stands a zoomorphic element, a stork stylization, which in its beak holds a rope from which hang an amphora and a stone vessel.
In Christian symbolism, the amphora, used in Roman times to store wine, can be related to the blood of Christ, while the stone vessel, used in Jewish purification ceremonies, symbolizes the virtue and divinity of Jesus.
The Stork, especially in early Christianity, was considered a symbol of humility, kindness and loyalty, and was also associated with the image of the Virgin Mary. It is also possible to relate this representation to Jesus' first miracle, described in the Gospel of St. John (J, 2, 1:11), when he turns water into wine in the famous episode of the Wedding Feast in Canaan.
