Tile panel painted by Jorge Colaço (1868–1942), created between approximately 1910 and 1930, a period corresponding to the artist’s most prolific phase. Born in Tangier, Morocco, Colaço developed a particular interest in the Islamic heritage of the Iberian Peninsula, a theme that occasionally appears in his work.
The composition evokes the Moorish presence on the Iberian Peninsula, depicting a Moorish horseman set against a backdrop of Islamic-influenced architecture, notably featuring a horseshoe arch and decorative elements in the Mudéjar style.
