A pair of 18th-century Portuguese tile panels, executed in cobalt blue on a white background, characteristic of Portuguese Baroque tilework. Both compositions feature putti surrounded by large garlands of flowers, foliage, and fruit, depicted holding large coconuts, integrated into the exuberant plant ornamentation. The narrow, vertical format of the panels, as well as the complementary nature of the two compositions, suggests that they were designed as architectural framing elements, possibly arranged flanking a portal, archway, or window. The abundance of fruits and flowers, associated with the child figures, is part of the 18th-century Baroque ornamental repertoire, in which garlands and festoons were frequently used to structure and enhance tile cladding in direct dialogue with the architecture.
