Terracotta Pine Cone, Model for Faience – 19th Century

Period: 19th century Dimensions: 75 cm Description:
19th-century ornamental terracotta pine cone, conceived as a model for the production of faience pieces. The composition features the pine cone rendered in relief, set on a moulded base and surrounded at the lower section by vegetal motifs. Models of this type served as references in the ceramic production process, allowing the form and decoration to be transferred to pieces subsequently produced and glazed in faience. The pine cone motif was widely used in 19th-century architectural ornamentation, particularly as a finishing element on façades, parapets, pillars and gates, and was traditionally associated with ideas of prosperity and good fortune.
