Pair of Shell-Shaped Sinks – Fábrica das Devesas, 19th Century

A pair of glazed earthenware sinks, produced by the Fábrica das Devesas in Porto during the 19th century. They feature a shell-shaped body with a ribbed, raised surface, topped at the bottom by a smaller shell and a pendant element. The surface features a white glaze with blue marbling, a decorative treatment characteristic of Fábrica das Devesas’s production and applied to various pieces of architectural ceramics. Designed for wall mounting, these sinks combine relief modeling with a marbled finish, forming part of the Portuguese architectural earthenware production of the second half of the 19th century.
