Composition of Hispano-Moorish Tiles – 15th–16th Centuries

Period: 15th–16th centuries Dimensions: 116 x 135 cm Description: Composition consisting of Hispano-Moorish tiles from the 15th and 16th centuries, featuring ceiling tiles in the center, framed by frieze tiles and other ceramic elements from the same period. The decoration features stylized geometric and plant motifs in a polychrome palette of blue, green, ochre, manganese, and white. Hispano-Moorish art developed in the Iberian Peninsula from the Islamic artistic tradition and remained active after the Christian conquest in artistic centers such as Seville. Geometry, modular repetition, and the interlacing of motifs are central elements of this decorative language, resulting from the fusion of Islamic culture and peninsular Christian society. Used in palaces, churches, and other buildings, these ceramic elements were incorporated into various architectural surfaces, ranging from walls and friezes to ceiling coverings.
